Polymer curing agents with long chain length can avoid the short, brittle and amorphous cross-link structures which may be the reason for the poor performance of epoxidized soybean oil-based
Epoxidized soybean oil is an epoxidized soyabean oil showing excellent compatibility with primary plasticizers. This plasticizer, when used with vinyl stabilizers, improves a synergic effect with

One of the most common applications of epoxidized soybean oil is as a plasticizer for polymers like polyvinyl chloride (PVC). When added to PVC, the epoxide groups in ESBO
The very high viscosity of ESBO would preclude its use as a quench oil due to excessive drag out. Therefore, the potential use of FAME derived from SO to reduce the
- What is epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO)?
- Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESBO) is a bio-degradable and renewable replacement and cost efficient alternative for phthalate plasticizers in PVC compounds, applications and other plastic materials. We can offer several grades of Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESBO), a regular or medical grade, key difference is the POV value of the product.
- Is Esbo a diluent?
- ESBO is a yellowish viscous liquid. Epoxidized Soybean Oil is a non-toxic, clear to yellow liquid that is used as a plasticizer and stabilizer in plastic materials, especially PVC and its copolymers. Epoxidized Soybean Oil is also used as a pigment dispersing agent and acid/mercaptan scavenging agent as well as an epoxy reactive diluent.
- Why does Esbo/fame increase VI?
- Increasing amounts of FAME in an ESBO/FAME blend resulted in a progressively increasing VI. It should be noted that a comparison of the viscosity properties of the fast and slow petroleum quench oils indicates that the basestocks are different for these two oils.
- Does Esbo improve thermal and oxidative stability?
- Adhvaryu and Erhan (Ref 1) and Erhan et al. (Ref 14) reported that ESBO demonstrated improved thermal and oxidative stability relative to unepoxidized SO and genetically modified high oleic SO in certain high temperature lubricant applications.
- Can Esbo be used as a quench oil?
- The very high viscosity of ESBO would preclude its use as a quench oil due to excessive drag out. Therefore, the potential use of FAME derived from SO to reduce the viscosity of ESBO to model a petroleum oil-based quenchant was evaluated.
- Does Esbo have a higher heat transfer coefficient than so?
- Comparing heat transfer coefficients exhibited by SO with ESBO during quenching showed that ESBO exhibited the same apparent film boiling behavior as SO, but the maximum heat transfer coefficient was much lower than either petroleum oil or SO.
