Find out various applications of plasticizers used in PVC film and flooring, wires and cables, medical and consumer goods. The material selection platform Most plasticized PVC products are durable goods, products with long service lives.
- What are plasticizers used for?
- Plasticizers are the major functional additives transforming the physical properties of polymers such as PVC, PU, acrylic, nitrile and rubbers to create a whole world of flexible and durable finished articles for high demanding applications. The world plasticizer consumption was around 7.82 million MT in 2017, up nearly 25% over 6 years .
- What is a low temperature plasticizer?
- Low-temperature plasticizers are used in applications where improvements in the low temperature flexibility limits are desired. Applications can include automotive interiors, weather stripping, outdoor cables, hoses, and vinyl roofing. Low-temperature plasticizers include the linear phthalate esters L9P, L911P, and L11P or DUP.
- Why do we offer a wide range of plasticizer products?
- By offering a large range of products, we provide our customers the versatility of identifying a plasticizer family that is effective with various polymers, and gives several product options from which to choose for optimum performance characterists - from general use to most demanding requirements.
- Which plasticizers are used in PVC?
- Over 90% of the plasticizers used in thermoplastic polymers are used in PVC. The plasticized polymer market and the plasticized PVC market are largely one and the same although some plasticizer is also used in acrylic polymers, polyurethanes, polystyrene even polyolefins. Some of the major end uses are discussed below.
- What polymers use plasticizers?
- Approximately 90% of these plasticizers are used in the production of plasticized or flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. Other polymer systems that use small amounts of plasticizers include polyvinyl butyral (PVB), acrylic polymers, poly (vinylidene chloride), nylon, polyolefins, polyurethanes, and certain fluoroplastics.
- What are low-volatility plasticizers?
- Low-volatility plasticizers include those plasticizers that offer greater permanence and longer service lives. This category includes the higher molecular weight monomeric plasticizers such as the trimellitate esters TEHTM or TOTM, TINTM, ditridecyl phthalate (DTDP), the linear phthalates L11P or DUP and 911P, and polymeric plasticizers.
