  • What is DOTP used for?
  • It is used in a wide range of applications including construction, automotive, coatings and flooring. Through the cooperative arrangement with Oxxynova, Oxea will become the major supplier of DOTP in Europe by 2019, claims Max Grudda, the company's marketing manager for plasticizers.
  • How much do oxo chemicals produce a year?
  • Oxo chemicals producer Oxea GmbH of Monheim am Rhein, Germany, recently revealed its aim to produce 60 000 tonnes/year of the general-purpose, non-ortho-phthalate plasticizer dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) in Europe by the second half of 2019 [ADPO, February 2018].
  • Who makes Dioctyl terephthalate?
  • The global chemical company Oxea aims to annually produce 60,000 metric tons of dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP), a general purpose non-ortho-phthalate plasticizer, in Europe by the second half of 2019. To that effect, Oxea has entered into a cooperation with Oxxynova, Steyerberg, Germany, a manufacturer of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT).
  • How is DOTP synthesized?
  • At the new, dedicated production unit, DOTP will be synthesized via the transesterification process, which is superior to conventional esterification, according to Oxea. The company will supply key precursor 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) to Oxxynova and will also market the DOTP end product through its own sales channels.
  • Where is oxxynova's new DOTP production unit located?
  • The new DOTP production unit will be constructed at Oxxynova’s manufacturing site in Germany, with engineering activities already well under way. Dioctyl terephthalate is a phthalate-free plasticizer that meets highest environmental requirements.
  • Does oxxynova supply DMT?
  • In addition to housing the DOTP plant, Oxxynova will supply its signature DMT product, which is the second key raw material required for the production of DOTP.
