Essentially, plasticizers are substances added to the polymer matrix to improve its plasticity, making it softer and more flexible.

In this study, a set of plasticizers including glycerol, PEG400, PEG1000 and the combination of glycerol and PEG1000 were utilized for plasticization and possible compatibilization of PVA/chitosan blends.
