The use of phthalates as a plasticizer in plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) always poses the threat of migration of phthalates into the environment through medical equipment.
ESBO is usually mixed with co-plasticizers, which could be a reasonable practice used by industry in order to fulfil the specific migration limits of each plasticizer. However,

Epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) has been used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC)/polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) food packaging cling film as a plasticizer and stabilizer.
Unlike ESBO, other plasticizers such ATBC, DOA and DBS did not need previous derivatization for GC/MS analysis, due to their lower molar mass. A multi-standard plasticizer solution 1000

Type: Epoxidized Soybean Oil(ESBO) Molecular: C57H106O10; CAS NO: 8013-07-8; Introduction: Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESO) is a kind of nonpoisonous and tasteless PVC
ATBC, ESBO, AOTP, and TOTM are exemplary choices, each contributing to the development of PVC products that meet performance standards while aligning with eco-friendly practices. By
- Can Esbo be used as a primary plasticizer for PVC plastisols?
- ESBO is usually mixed with co-plasticizers, which could be a reasonable practice used by industry in order to fulfil the specific migration limits of each plasticizer. However, since ESBO was seen to play a role in thermal stability of PVC itcould be a good alternative as a primary plasticizer and/or stabilizer for PVC plastisols.
- Does Esbo migrate from PVC/PVDC cling film?
- The aim of this study was to investigate the migration of ESBO from PVC/PVDC cling film, based on gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The specific migration of ESBO was evaluated using various food simulants (water, 4% acetic acid, 50% ethanol and n-heptane) for PVC and PVDC wrap products.
- Does Esbo migrate from plastic to food?
- The migration of ESBO from plastic into food has been steadily investigated. As ESBO is generally known to be used in PVC gaskets, most studies have focused on the migration from PVC gasket seals into baby food or fatty food (Ezerskis et al. 2007; Fankhauser-Noti et al. 2006; Hanusova et al. 2015 ).
- Does Esbo reduce thermal degradation of PVC?
- Therefore, it could be concluded that thethermal degradation of PVC is clearly limited by the addition of ESBO at amounts higher than 1–2 wt%, and especially if ESBO concentrations are in the range of values used for plasticizers (30–40 wt%).
- Does Esbo migrate from PVC/PVDC wrap to food simulants?
- The potential migration of ESBO from PVC/PVDC wrap into various food simulants under different conditions was evaluated based on gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Different brands or types of stretching food-grade PVC wrap were collected. A total of 13 PVC wraps and 1 PVDC wrap were purchased from on-line or off-line markets in Korea.
- Is Esbo a food additive?
- In particular, ESBO is indicated as an additive in most of the commercial PVC wrap that is currently marketed. The most important EU regulations which concern plastics for food contact are the following: EU Commission Directive 1935/2004, 2023/2006/EC, and 10/2011/UE (modified by EU Regulation 1282/2011).
